2009 Season In Review

The Tigers enjoyed a special season this year as they broke one school record after another. After finishing District undefeated for the first time in school history, they went on to the state playoffs for the first time since 2004. They made it three rounds deep into the playoff bracket, farther than any team in school history. The tigers finished their season with an amazing 12-1 record, setting the bar higher for future KC teams.
Throughout the season, the Tigers caught the attention of local media, all of whom recognized the talent that was displayed and hard work that was paying off win after win, many times in adverse weather against teams in a district that consitently makes competitive runs for State.  Their games were often featured on local sports radio and TV shows and the team was named Channel 55 High School Sports Live Team of the Week for their victory against Westfield.
 Coach Svoboda's dedication to the team and their success was also recognized throughout the season as he was interviewed by local radio, newspaper, and television personalities.  He was named the Houston Texans Coach of the Week after the win against Klein Oak, was a Finalist for the Houston Touchdown Club Coach of the Year award, and was named District 13-5A Coach of the Year and Houston Texans 5A Coach of the Year.  Offensive Line coach Frank Grimm also won the Assistant Coach of the Year award from the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association.  

 The honors just kept on coming, even after the season ended.  21 Tigers were named All-District Team members, 12 were honored as Academic All-District and 5 were named Academic All-State.  2 Seniors were selected to play in the 2010 Nike Bayou Bowl, and 4 signed for scholarships on National Signing Day.

 Klein Collins' parents, faculty, and students are very proud of their 2009 Varsity Tigers, and especially its graduating Seniors, for their hard work and commitment to excellence this season.
